Abstrakt

Niniejszy artykuł analizuje wizerunek Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki w najpopularniejszej gazecie Bhutanu. Królestwo Bhutanu to buddyjskie państwo położone w Himalajach, które przez wieki pozostawało w dobrowolnej izolacji, co miało wpływ na jego kulturę, zwyczaje oraz media, które pojawiły się dopiero pod koniec XX wieku. Ta konstytucyjna monarchia kieruje się wskaźnikiem Szczęścia Narodowego Brutto (Gross National Happiness – GNH), który mierzy rozwój nie w kategoriach finansowych, lecz poprzez osobiste osiągnięcia obywateli. Tak wyjątkowe uwarunkowania wpłynęły na charakter bhutańskich mediów, które zazwyczaj unikają ostrych osądów, sensacyjności i tabloidyzacji, co sprawia, że sposób, w jaki przedstawiane są Stany Zjednoczone, jest szczególnie interesujący. Badanie opiera się na paradygmacie jakościowym i wykorzystuje metodę analizy treści medialnych. Próbka badawcza (122 teksty) pochodzi z artykułów opublikowanych w periodyku „Kuensel”. Wyniki badania uzupełniają lukę badawczą w kontekście analiz wizerunku Ameryki w bhutańskich mediach.
