Author Biography

Epp Lauk, University of Jyväskylä

Epp Lauk is Professor of Journalism at the Department of Languages and Communication Studies at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. She has previously worked as a researcher, Associate Professor and Professor at the University of Tartu, Estonia, as Guest Professor in several other universities, including the University of Oslo, Norway and Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia. She has also worked as Bonnier Professor at the University of Stockholm, Sweden. In 2011–2012 she worked half a year as Visiting Fellow of the Media and Democracy in Central and Eastern Europe project at Oxford University. During her four decades of academic experience, Professor Lauk has led and participated in numerous nationally and internationally funded media and journalism research projects. Lauk’s publications include over 160 articles, book chapters and edited or co-edited books on journalism cultures and history, media and journalism in CEE countries, media policy, media self-regulation and accountability, social media, etc. She is an editorial board member of many international scholarly journals and co-editor-in-chief of an international open access journal Media and Communication (https://www.cogitatiopress.com/mediaandcommunication/index). Professor Lauk was a Board member of ECREA (2012–2016) and acting chair of the History Section of IAMCR in 2012–2014, and co-chair in 2012–2016. She also served as Member of the Board of the Jyväskylä Unit of the Finnish Union of University Professors in the year 2012–2015.
